A logo isn’t a picture. It’s something you hang β€” over a door, across an apron, around a paper cup. I draw marks that survive all three. Tap or hover a name to switch it on.

Then it left my screen. A counter somewhere in Cambodia, a plastic cup, and a queue of people who will never know a designer was involved. That is the part I work for.

The finished brand in daily use: iced coffee cups printed with the emblem on a real cafe counter
In use β€” the cups, the bags, the shop
Customers waiting at the cafe counter beside the branded packaging
Customers, not mockups

The hardest brief I have drawn. I turned a Khmer temple spire into the steam coming off a cup, sat it on a lotus pedestal and wrapped it in kbach flame-work β€” all in one unbroken gold line, so it holds on foil, on embroidery, on a screen-print and on a cheap plastic cup. I set the Khmer and the Latin at equal weight. Neither one is a translation of the other.

Everywhere else in here my line is exact. On this one I broke it on purpose. I dragged the letters with a brush and left them rough and slightly out of register β€” a sign painted fast, because the food is fast β€” then locked the whole thing inside a hard orange keyline so it still reads from across the street. Loud takes discipline.

A peony, a leaf and an interlocked S Β· B, drawn as one continuous rose-gold contour. That single line is what lets me foil it, deboss it into leather, or drop it to 9 mm on the shoulder of a dropper bottle without losing a petal. I set the Khmer name at the same weight as the Latin β€” this is a Cambodian brand, and its own script is never the small print.

A clinic does not need to shout, so I did not. One unbroken line draws a profile and then becomes the H β€” no illustration, no gradient, no second idea. After that I let the materials talk: brushed metal, deboss, thread, light. It is the quietest thing I have made and probably the most confident.

I keylined every element β€” the skyline, the slab lettering, the bagel, the border, and the border around the border β€” because it was built to be cut out. I drew the die-line first and grew the composition inward from it. It is the one piece here I let be funny, and the humour is doing real work: you will remember which bagel shop this is.

Soft is harder than it looks β€” there is nowhere to hide. One stroke weight, flat colour, no shading, four warm tans. I drew it to hold up shrunk onto a bottle label and to not fall apart blown up into a lit sign. Nothing here is trying to be clever. It only has to feel like being looked after.

“I love Jesus and my family. My goal is to have a happy family.”
Sophea Ton β€” in his own words

I am not an artist with a manifesto. I am the person a small business calls when it needs a face.

Six clients, six worlds that look nothing alike β€” gold temple line-work, a brush-dragged street sign, a rose-gold peony, a single-stroke clinical profile, an American die-cut badge, a bear holding her cub. What runs underneath all of them is the same three things: one continuous line, symmetry about a vertical axis, and Khmer and Latin treated as equals.

I work as M K T Design out of Phnom Penh and trained at ACT, the Academy of Careers and Technology. Plainly: I work to your brief, I have been doing this for several years, and I can make most of what a business needs printed, hung, worn or wrapped.
